The biggest thing my group and I noticed in the first film opening was the camera angles used. Many of the camera angles used to highlight the athlete made the opening look more professional. In the second film opening I was a little confused; however the mysterious shots captivated my group and I and made us want to know what was going to happen next. In the third film opening, during the credits, they used establishing shots that reminded me of Forest Gump's film opening. In the next film opening, I really enjoyed feeling as if I were with the group of friends; this was done through the various camera angles. Moreover, the close ups of the car features made the car seem more important to the story. By starting off the film with a two-shot, the directors of this film were able to establish the main idea of what their film will be about, along with the main character. In the sixth film opening the first thing I noticed was the character's costumes. In all the other films, up to this point, none of the characters were wearing out of the ordinary clothing. In this film, the clothes establish the time period, and the culture of the characters. In the next film opening, the close ups of all the lab equipment and restraints on the patient help to establish the scenario. Moreover, the cool tone of lighting adds the effect of a scary, cold environment. This further elevates the film opening. As for the next film opening, I was a bit confused until the title of the film appeared and explained what was going on. Even though the film opening was interesting, it did not leave my group and I wanting to watch more. In the next film opening, the correlation between the paintings and the women seemed very detached and confusing. It would have been more interesting if the painting transitioned into the real scene, making it more parallel/symbolic. In contrast, the last film opening did a good job at relating the animated drawings to the main character's hobby of drawing. This helped show the theme of art clearly.
After watching all of these film openings, and comparing our choice of genre to the rest of class, my group and I decided to change our genre. We came to the conclusion that stimulating the feelings of horror in our audience would be harder since we do not have the equipment tp make our scenes more realistic. Instead, our group decided to do mystery as our film opening genre instead. We figured we could have more creative freedom since there are more ways to make an audience curious about what will happen next in comparison to how to scare the audience.
